Another mass uprising like 1990’s needed to oust govt: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul alamgir today called on students and the general public to come together to support "another mass uprising", like the one of 1990, in order to overthrow the present government.
"Students and people overthrew the then dictatorial government through a mass uprising in 1990. Our leader Begum Khaleda Zia led the movement. Now, we need such a mass uprising again," declared Fakhrul.
The BNP secretary general addressed an event held at Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka which marked the anniversary of the death of Chhatra Dal leader Naziruddin Jihad who was killed in the fight to overthrow Ershad. Ershad regime in the year 1990.
BNP's acting Chairman Tarique Rahman appeared on the show as Chief Guest from London.
The student body is urged to come together. Fakhrul stated that the government (current government) will be forced to leave for an impartial election, that is conducted by an impartial Election Commission, under a totally neutral and independent caretaker government.
Fakhrul declared, "Ousting the current government, we will be able to free our party chief Khaleda Zia and bring back Tarique Rahman home from abroad through the election under a neutral government."
